Leadership with Ken Blanchard – Learning Environment crucial

I participated in today’s webinar with leadership guru Ken Blanchard.  I will write more on the specific take ways from this in a later post but I thought I would share his response to my question on the live chat he hosted after the webinar was over. Please see below for my question and Ken’s definitive response:

I am tasked with developing leadership among mid sized nonprofits which typically have limited resources (time and money) for courses etc. Any suggestions or tips on how to create an environment to encourage non profit leaders to make time to develop their skills?

In our company, we have what we call “IQU” Intelligence Quest University. We are giving courses all the time and we know that the success of these programs depends on the endorsement of our leaders. I think when you stop learning, you die. Organizations, whether they are “for profit” or “non profit”, will die if they do not cultivate a learning environment.

What do you think?  As a leader, do you have a responsibility to model continual self-development to your staff?  How have you created a continuous learning environment within your own organization?
